You can drop them off directly at the DSHS office, 4710 Auto Center Blvd., Monday thru Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in east Bremerton at 700 Callahan Drive., Tuesday thru Friday, 9 am to 2 pm, and in South Kitsap at Book’em Book Store, 2289 Bethel Rd., Monday thru Saturday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, and Sunday, Noon to 4 pm.

v 6/09: “Warm for Winter” is now asking folks to knit, crochet, or sew warm hats and scarves for our homeless/low-income this winter. Contact Janice Tufte at warmforwinter@yahoo.com for details.s.

v 5/5/09: The Postal Food Drive is 5/9. Please leave a bag of HOMELESS FOOD by your mail box. Homeless food is anything with a pop top or plastic top like soup and fruit, and cereal and granola bars, little boxes of raisins, etc.

1/4/09: We are collecting CAMPING GEAR to be given out during the Point In Time Homeless Count later this month. We are in need of Coleman campstoves with small bottles of propane, lanterns, flashlights and all sizes of batteries, 2-person tents, tarps, thermal unders (bottoms and tops, men and women), Chapstick, waterproof poncho’s with hoods. Please take your donations to Kitsap Community Resources, 1201 Park Ave., in Bremerton, during normal business hours. And please write: “Attention Terry Schroeder” on the bag. See her, too, if you’d like to volunteer your own or your groups time on the count.

1/4/09: We are also in need of the following for the PIT Count: In a grocery store recycle (made of material) bag, could you fill it with homeless foods such as: pop-top lid items such as stew, beans, soup, fruit, pudding; plastic spoons; roll of toilet paper; Chapstick; travel-sized bottle of shampoo, toothpaste & brush, razor. These would also be delivered to Terry, listed above.

Thank you!!!

v 11/8/08: We are looking for volunteers to help with the January ‘09 homeless count. We’ll be doing it Jan. 29 and 30. If you’d like to help, email me and I can give you details and contact info.

v       9/13/08: SOUTH KITSAP HELPLINE NEEDS YOUR HELP. They have seen a threefold increase in clients, our families and neighbors, and not in donations. Even the smallest donation will help. Your can of cream corn could be a meal for a family. My mom used to add a glass of milk to that, with a handful of crackers, and that was dinner. Take your can or box of anything to church and ask them to get it to Helpline if you can’t. Please… these are our families and neighbors. Every little bit helps.

8/2/08: The Bremerton Salvation Army needs BACKPACKS FOR ELEMENTARY GRADE KIDS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO FILL THEM UP. You can drop them by at 832 6th St., Bremerton, WA 98337 or mail in a check with “School Supplies” in the memo line.
